Romulus & Remus, The Wolf Mother

In the foundation myth of Rome, the abandoned twins Romulus and Remus survive beneath the protection of the she wolf. She shelters them, feeds them and becomes the first guardian of the brothers who would one day give rise to Rome.
RookFire’s Romulus & Remus pendant carries that ancient image forward in solid 18ct yellow gold.
This pendant is a direct representation of an original Roman coin from my own collection.
On one side, the she wolf stands over the twins beneath two stars. On the reverse, Roma appears helmeted beneath the inscription VRBS ROMA, meaning City of Rome.
The original coin dates to the Constantinian period, circa AD 330. Its ancient character remains visible in the finished piece, giving the pendant a direct connection to the Roman object from which it was taken.
